The survivors guide to secure it centre design

— Faithfull Michael - Nama Orang; Watt, Steve - Nama Orang;

Analysis of published data clearly indicates that the most frequent cause of loss of ability to process data by means of a computer system is the failure of some component of the computer system itself. It may be an actual hardware failure, an upgrade which did not go smoothly, or a new revision of the operating system causing a most unexpected failure. However, fire, sabotage, flooding and other external influences can also pose a threat. There are also many other parameters contributing to the availability of an organization's data processing services which are under its own control. Therefore, by ensuring that proper attention is paid to these parameters, a payoff of greater value is experienced in terms of system availability. Notice that 'availability' is the terminology used, as this encompasses many more parameters than just hardware reliability important though this is.
