This book in general is aimed at a wide range of sizes of organizations which are concerned with manufacturing. The general principles, of course, are applicable to all companies and are treated on this basis. On the other hand, there are special considerations applicable to individual companies; these are only touched upon in this book but are dealt with at greater length in other books in this series.

In some respects this first volume represents a pioneering attempt to bring into sharp focus what constitutes modern manufacturing management. It is realized that much could have been included that was not, but it is hoped that the coverage provided will assisr manufacturibng managers in their important work-the work of putting a quality product on the shippingh dock at tje lowest possible cost.
