Sunnyvale, California, lies at the northern edge San Jose, about 20 minutes south of Palo Alto. It is a town without a real downtown, just neighborhoods and school yards surrounding high-tech industrial parks. One can get to it by driving down interstate 280 "the world's most beautiful freeway" or may penetrate its perimeter via El Camino Real. These entry points, as well as all others such as the Lawrence Expressway and the Bayshore, are clogged twice each business day in one of the worst traffic patterns in the Western world.
