Metals which is one of the Engineering Materials are classified into two because of their iron content. They are ferrous and non- ferrous metals. Non- ferrous metals are metals that do not contain iron which are aluminium, copper, lead, zinc, titanium and nickel. Therefore metals which iron is the base component are known to be magnetic, heavy in weight, high conductors of electricity and malleable are called ferrous metals. Iron is produced from ore that occurs chiefly in nature as oxides. Iron can also be classified into pig iron, cast iron, ingot iron white cast iron, grey cast iron etc. These properties that ferrous metals possess makes them useful in fabrication because they can be used to produce wide variety of products like engine parts, we can also see its application in construction industries
